mailto Commands

For event registration, it is ideal to have the recipient complete their details in a form that can be properly validated and collated in a database for easy administration of the attendees to the event as well their relevant details. The forms and databases can take some time to develop but ultimately are more efficient and effective in managing the administrative nightmares associated with events via a single repository of the information. Emailed RSVPs can sometimes be lost and hard to track in inboxes but for small events the mailto command can be modified to capture information. Continue reading

Photoshop Colour Management Reset

Some slight frustration after having some hardware drivers installed accidentally via a Windows update. The frustration revolved around Photoshop and the colour management profile. Opening old and current projects gave the a message asking about different colour profiles to be used and I pinpointed it to the secondary monitor I plug into my laptop. However, I could not avoid this issue within Photoshop every time I opened an existing document. The image files would would have their whites look a similar shade to Richie Benaud’s wardrobe – beige, off white, bone and pink! Exporting the files for use on the web resulting in a similar headache where the white (cream) actually turned into a soft shade of blue! Continue reading

WordPress 2.7 Coltrane

Named after the jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, WordPress 2.7 has been released today. I have to say my experience with the release candidates has been brilliantly suprising. I was late getting on the WP bandwagon all those years ago but this platform really does have great potential in many different arenas of web site development. The new admin interface is sleek, intuitive and most importantly its damn fast. I am using it as a basis of CMS build outs to help visualise what a site’s infrastructure will look like. The ease of being able to build sites quickly and the sheer amount of community support and flexibility allowed puts this little package at the forefront in my minds eye.

Dreamweaver SSH Connections

I just came across an issue with a certain overseas project that required SSH access to the web server. The web server did not have FTP installed and thus all site files were maintained via SCP and SSH. This was of course going to be a bit tedious dealing in a text editor for this particular project as I prefer to do a lot of coding in Dreamweaver for its resources and reference material which readily on hand. Plus I did not really want to have to have refresh on ‘VI’ commands! A bit of research directed my attention a java application called MindTerm. This works perfectly, allowing me to see the remote folders and files and quickly find what I need to edit and update. Continue reading

Google Enhanced Features

It has been over a week since Google announced their new features for their analytics suite. To say the least, I am very frustrated with the extremely slow roll-out. Yes I understand why they are doing it this way – so they don’t have a server meltdown when everyone jumps on and tests them all out. Maybe if they looked at rolling out a particular feature for a particular location it would be a little less frustrating. All these posts about how this can do that and I am stuill waiting for the beta links to appear in my accounts… Come on Google – release at least one new feature to the Australian region today!
