Obanyaki Yum Yum

While looking for some dinner this evening, I happened across a snack store selling waffles and the Japanese favourite, Obanyaki. This dessert sweet is traditionally filled with red bean paste sandwiched between what you would call really thick pancakes – slightly smaller than the palm of your hand. For a single Aussie dollar you can have your choice of traditional bean paste, chocolate custard, some sesame concoction and just plain old custard. Of course, being a custard lover, I had to go with just that. I had to wait about five minutes before they were ready because the last batch disappeared in an instant. It was well worth the wait. Pancakes and custard are an awesome combination. This was delicious and really hit the spot. I seriously wanted to have another right there and then. But this will ave to be a treat that I will have to keep away from – NOT! Maybe I will just try and restrict myself to one a week. Bah! One a day! I am loving these little vendors in the supermarkets and on the street. They certainly are popular both with the locals and with me, so I really can’t go wrong.
