Saw this in Sydney last night. I am big fan of animation and cartoons but I never got into the Marvel Super Heroes until the first X-Men movie. I was of course aware of most of the characters but never had a great interest in them.
The cinema was pretty empty and I positioned myself in the best seat in the house. The movie centers around Jean Grey, the most powerful mutant that has existed – a class five. I say ‘existed’ because she died in the previous movie.
Jean Grey’s reincarnation brings Cyclops to untimely end, one significant other mutant and almost claims Wolverine. Besides Jean Grey, the driving force of the movie is the so called ‘cure’ for the mutant gene. This cure comes around due to the discovery of a mutant whose presence removes the effect of a mutants super powers – Jimmy aka Leech. Some mutants embrace the cure, longing to be ‘normal’ whereas others believe the are not a disease.
This cure is used by the homo-sapiens as it was intended at first, but it soon becomes a weapon and a mutant uprising ensues led by no other than Magneto. Charles Xavier and his X-Men still uphold their beliefs that humans and mutants can co-exist. And so the war has a more blurred element – humans v mutants and now mutant v mutant.
The movie was quite enjoyable to watch. Nothing spectacular about the photography or the effects. I probably don’t do the story line that much justice as the plot was quite good and kept the movie going.
