Since I updated you all about hte progress on my knee. Sorry, I just got a bit lazy and was occupied with other things going on around here. Hopefully, this update will shed some light on what has happened over the past two and a bit months.
The good news is that currently my knee is going well. The bad news is that I have not been very diligent with my rehab. Call it laziness (most likely) or complacency but I have not kept to a strict regime. This is not to say that I have not done anything during this time.
But hopefully this will all change as I have decided it is time to get off my fat ass and and lose the weight I have gained from this injury and get back into a healthy lifestyle. It was just too convenient to do the bad things with this injury and I am feeling the effects of it.
On a positive note, I am now over three months post op. I have excellent extension in my left knee and have nearly all flexion back in the joint. I have the all clear to cycle on the mountain bike outdoors (However, I am not to use cleats so the road bike is out of bounds for the moment). I also have a gym programme which I have not started (see above!) and can also swim with a pool bouy (no kicking).
I did have an issue with my knee about a month and a half ago whic was probably the start of my downfall. I was working hard on the road bike in wind trainer – harder than I had done for some time and felt the effects a couple of days later. My knee blew up and was quite painful for about a week or so.
This all cleared up eventually while I took it easy and I just continued to take it easy from there on – too easy!
So yesterday I had my first ride outdoors and went for forty minute ride up St Georges road with Trudi. That was great and I can’t wait for the next ride.
I am seeing the physio again for the first time in a while this Wednesday before I head up to Cairns for a small break from work so hopefully all will be ok. It has been around a month since my last visit.
More news later!
