It will be three weeks tomorrow (10.03.06) since my knee reconstruction. Two weeks off from work and constant exercises working the quads, hamstring as well as heel slides to get flexion back into the joint has my knee looking good.
Physiotherapy started in the second week and plenty of anti-inflammatory work has been done to help reduce the swelling and stiffness in the surrounding muscles. The calf muscles had tightened up quite a bit, but the knots were kneaded out in the first session.
Hamstring has been tight, as can be expected using a hamstring tendon graft. But it has been getting better and I have been gaining strength back into the hamstring gradually.
Quad control is doing very well. I can tighten my quads and have good control over them. The kneecap is moving up during the clench very well.
My flexion has increased gradually over the past few weeks and I can now reach roughly 105 degrees. My surgeon is very happy with this as well as my full extension of the leg.
All in all, my surgeon is very pleased with my progress so far and has given me the go ahead to start doing some cycling on the stationary bike. 3-4 minutes to begin with and building up from there.
He has also said that I can now move to a neoprene-hinged brace for outside use. This is a great relief as the splint brace is cumbersome and annoying to say the least.
My next physio appointment is tomorrow, I should then be allowed to start doing some squat exercises to start building up the muscle around the knee. Next week I should also be able to start swimming with a pool buoy now that the wounds are mostly healed.
The future is looking good with the progress made so far.
